Neudorf, Home Block Moutere Chardonnay

Neudorf Home Block comes from the Moutere Clay Gravels in Upper Moutere, Nelson. An old alluvial landscape of clay loam with small pebbles laid down by ancient river systems. These soils are excellent for Chardonnay because they’re free draining yet retain enough moisture to nurture deep, balanced vine root systems. The clay also contributes texture and minerality in the finished wine, while the gravelly elements help keep the vines from excessive vigour, concentrating flavour. Neudorf’s entire Moutere vineyard area, including the Home Block, is organically certified (BioGro) and farmed with an eye toward soil health and balance. There are no synthetic herbicides or fungicides; instead, proactive vineyard management builds rich, vibrant soils that make expressive fruit.
