Vincent Carême Vouvray Sec
This dry Chenin Blanc not only comes from one of the most classic regions of the world for the variety (Vouvray in the Loire Valley), but it also comes from a young winemaker who is quickly becoming a legend for the wines he’s making. Vincent Careme only makes Chenin Blanc. He started in the late 90’s with a small piece of land that he inherited from his parents, and since then, he’s added to his estate as well as his repertoire, skills, and knowledge. His vines are tended organically and using biodynamic principles, and everything is done by hand.
It’s pretty amazing for anyone in France to gain credibility so quickly for the wines they make, but Vincent is now regarded as one of the top producers in Vouvray. Considering this, his wines are still incredibly affordable. This “sec,” or dry style, is fresh, mineral-driven and pretty now. And it’s also so structured and elegant that if you are the kind of person who likes to cellar their wines, it will reward you many times over.
