TW Wines Carménère

The Carménère originally planted in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France, where it was used to produce deep red wines. A member of the Cabernet family, the name "Carménère" originates from the French word for crimson (carmin) which refers to the brilliant crimson colour. The colour of this Gisborne wine is more an inky aubergine and has concentrated flavours of tamarillo and spice.

Paul Tietjen and Geordie Witters began TW Wines in 1998. The concept of TW was born on a fishing trip to Waikarimoana in 1997, they talked along the way about grapes, wine, and a few other things and realised they both had ideas of producing top-quality wines. With encouragement and advice from local Gisborne winemakers Geoff Sinnott and James Millton and a few ideas from friends, they set about forming a company and finding winery space.

Aromas of ripe dark cherry with some tobacco. Flavours of that cherry, tamarillo and blackberry, with subtle spice and more tobacco on the finish. We dont see much locally produced Carménère, so click into your adventurous side and try this full flavoured, yet tempered (12% Alc. Vol.) red wine.
