Turkey Flat, Butchers Block GSM

The wine blends Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvedre) together. Grenache adds the spice, Mataro the backbone and Shiraz the warmth. Balance is crucial, each varietals contribution is evident. This is a structured, fruit driven medium bodied wine made in a crowd pleasing style.

Turkey Flat dates back to 1847. It gets its name from the Prussian settlers who noticed a large native bird in the area. It was in fact not a turkey but a Plains Bustard bird that can be seen on the label of this wine. Now run by the 4th generation of the Schulz family, Turkey Flat is known for its blends of traditional Rhone varieties. In the late 1800’s the family also ran a butcher business in the area and this wine gets its name from the building that once housed that business and is now the Cellar Door.

A superb blend, it’s bright and charming, yet brooding. Enjoy with a slow cooked meat dish that provides some warmth in the colder winter months.
