Symington Altano Tinto
A classic Duoro Valley red wine made by one of Portugal’s most respected wine families. The Symington family’s involvement with the Douro dates back to the mid-17th century, and they are now well into the fifth generation of winemakers. Originally better known for premium Port wines, the family began producing dry Douro DOC table wines seriously in the late 1990s. Altano Tinto is made using the indigenous varieties found in port such as Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Sourced exclusively from their own vineyards, this wine is a true reflection of the unique terroir of Northern Portugal. Grapes are hand-picked from selected vineyard sites in areas like Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, where altitude and granite soils give structure and freshness to the fruit. A medium, full
bodied, fruity and approachable red, great for everyday drinking but with real Douro character. The Altano Tinto presents a vibrant blend of rich, dark fruit aromas, including ripe berries and cherries, woven with subtle notes of spice and earthiness. On the palate, it is smooth and well-balanced, with a lively freshness and soft tannins that provide structure and depth. The finish is long and elegant, leaving behind lingering fruit and a touch of spice that highlights the wine’s complexity and connection to the terroir of the Douro Valley.
