Steininger Gruner Veltliner

If you are looking for something different to increase your knowledge of the world of wine then look no further than this traditional variety from Austria. The country has many similarities to New Zealand and this is their national wine style. Dry, fragrant and refreshing.

Gruner Veltliner is an unusual variety that has found a home in Austria where it is the most widely planted grape. Mainly made in a dry style it often has a peppery or spicy flavour profile. In the better wines, it has substance to go with the aromatics. The Steininger winery is situated around the important wine town of Langenlois in the Kamptal Valley. The importance of Gruner Veltliner is seen at this winery with it accounting for over 80% of the winery’s production. This Gruner from Austria’s Langenlois region (in the broader area of Neideroesterreich) is fresh and lingering and a perfect aperitif or anytime wine for those who are looking for something a little bit different. I actually enjoyed it with Fijian coconut red fish curry and it was amazing! It held its own no problems!
