San Felice Chianti Classico DOCG

Strict Italian wine laws mean grapes must be sourced entirely from one of the 8 Chianti regions and must be made with least 75% of the Sangiovese grape. The other portion in this wine is Pugnitello. DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is at the top of the three tier denomination and quality grading system in Italy. This simply means it is top stuff!

Located in the heart of Chianti Classico is San Felice. If you thought Tuscany was already picture-postcard stuff wait until you see San Felice! This estate has over 150,000 hectares of vineyards, 15,000 olive trees, a wine cellar, a wine bar, a medieval village, a flash hotel complex and a Vitiarium.

A Vit-what?! The Vitiarium was built in the 1980s with the aim of protecting the genetic heritage of Tuscan viticulture by collecting and classifying over 270 grape varieties. Wine, tourism, culture and a bit of science – San Felice is quite the place!

Dry on the palate, showing subtle tannins and a fresh, crisp acidity. Scents of cherry, raspberry, and sweetviolets. At its best when partnered with a full flavoured rugu style pasta or roasted red meats.
