Rioja Vega Crianza

The great wines of Rioja in northern Spain have built up a worldwide reputation for the quality and drinkability of their wines. Crianza refers to the ageing requirements of a classic Rioja made using the Tempranillo and Graciano grape varieties. The wine must be aged for 12 months in Barrel (in this case American oak) and at least 6 months in bottle before release to have this name.

This winery has been operating since 1882 and most of these original vineyards are still positioned around the winery, each with their own characteristics that when blended together create a variety of different wines. The Crianza has a lovely ripe red fruit character that is matched by an acidity level that keeps it fresh and lively and certainly not heavy. Maybe a more traditional style of Rioja with the sweet spice coming from the American oak.
