Quartz Reef Methode Traditionnelle NV

This iconic Central Otago producer has been making great sparkling wines since its inception in 1996. Rudi Bauer, founder of Quartz Reef, is one of those wine personalities that everyone should meet. This is my go-to local bubbles at the moment. I love it for its freshness and dryness which makes me reach for another glass.

Rudi originated in Austria and worked with Mission, Rippon and Giesen in New Zealand before starting up on his own with other local partners. His search for a place to make great Pinot Noir and sparkling wines led him to the Bendigo area in the Cromwell Basin. The winery gets its name from a large Quartz deposit that sits beneath the vineyards. To understand Rudi and his wines you must also understand his philosophy. He is searching to make wines that exhibit “a symphony of flavours that capture attention and entertain so that you forget everything else” I will drink to that! This wine is 62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay. It has undergone secondary ferment in a bottle. It is dry, fresh and refreshing.
