Masseria Altemura “Apulo” Fiano

Fiano is one of Italy's great white native grapes, mainly found in the warmer southern climates. Not an overly complicated wine at all, but it's not trying to be. That's the beauty. It's just very drinkable.

Masseria Altemura can be found on the “heel” of Italy in Salento in the region of Puglia. The property is actually a fortified, self-sufficient farm built in the 4th century to defend itself from foreign invaders. The history around the property is long and exciting. Amazingly it has an underground river running under the vineyards that must have been very useful in the days of siege warfare. The wine has a lively acidity and a lovely expression of citrus and stone fruit and just a bit of dewy garden flowers and herbs. Easy drinking and moreish.
