Linden Estate Gewurztraminer

Ge-what? The word “Gewurz” (geh-VIRTS) means “spice” in German. You’ll start to understand when you take a whiff of this intoxicating wine. Perfumed, decadently fruity and…yes, cinnamon spicy, too. There is just SO much going on in a glass of Gewurztraminer, and that’s also why it can be tricky to get it right. Think Carmen Miranda. Showy, colourful and lush, but somehow also delicate and absolutely classy. Can’t be bothered cooking tonight? Order a spicy curry and your match is made.

Linden Estate has been one of the only wineries in Hawke’s Bay to grow and make Gewurztraminer, and this is such a cracking good example at a fraction of the price one might expect. Did we mention that this wine comes from one of the most acclaimed Hawke’s Bay vintages in the last decade? (2020 was a stunner.)

Established in 1971, Linden is one of the older wineries in Hawke’s Bay, and the situated in Eskdale, the most northerly of all Hawke’s Bay’s wine areas. Linden Estate has been working exceptionally hard over the last few years reinvent themselves; to level-up and put more focus and quality into each wine they produce. Eskdale, where Linden Estate is located, was one of the worst-affected areas of Hawke’s Bay during the flooding caused by Cyclone Gabrielle. This fact, and the fact that we don’t know if another Gewurztraminer will be produced by Linden any time soon, makes this wine all the more special.
