Langmeil “Stelle Nere” Sparkling Shiraz

Bubbly Shiraz? Oh, absolutely yes. It may seem like a contradiction in a bottle, but actually, this is a style of wine long-loved in Australia (and globally). In fact, the wonderful thing about sparkling Shiraz is that you get fine, creamy (only very slightly sweet) bubbles playing with all the other dense, fruity, savoury, complex elements that the grape variety offers. Not too sweet, but still fruity and ripe, with flaky baked patisserie vanilla and the leathery rich layers coming from the older batches of juice used to make this "non-vintage" wine. If you haven't tried a sparkling Shiraz yet, this is an utter classic to have under your belt. Absolutely moreish!

Langmeil is a name that represents not only a six-generation-old tradition of quality in the Barossa, but also a respect for both the community that wine creates and also the community that wine comes from. “Stelle Nere,” meaning “Black Stars,” is an homage to the father of the current Lindner family winemakers, who “loved red wine and the cosmos.”
While this is a wine made from a blend of vintages, both fresh and reserve, as is often the norm for sparkling Shiraz, a good percentage of this wine was made from the rare and sparse 2019 vintage: “the smallest vintage in 20 years.” Bold, ripe, rich, structured and very cellarable, the grapes from this vintage, while scant, produced some striking wines, including this oh-too delcious not-your-average-bubbly bubbly.
If you’re sometimes in the mood for bubbles before noon on a Sunday, why not try this and see where it takes you?
