La Petite Vanguard “Corsair”

An interesting, moreish blend of 3 Portuguese grape varieties: Tinta Barroca,Touriga Nacional & Tinta Roriz. From winemaker Michael Corbett in South Australia. The resulting wine is rich and full. It has an abundance of flavour as only those Ozzies can do while still managing not to over do it.

The “Corsairs” were pirates, mainly operating in the Mediterranean Sea as privateers and authorised by the French crown to conduct raids on ships from nations that were at war with France.

Very much a family affair, Michael Corbett, (a kiwi, who cut his winemaking teeth in Hawkes Bay,) and Claire, (his wife,) now make exciting organic wines in South Australia. A lovely friendly couple, who during vintage, will quite often chuck their kids in the vats to foot press the grapes, they’ve steered away from the traditional ‘punch you in the face’ wines to make wines of interest. As a first-generation vigneron, Michael has forged his path in the world of wine, amassing over 30 vintages throughout his career, spanning across 13 regions and four countries. His distinct talent lies in his ability to infuse traditional styles with a dynamic and modern twist, earning him well-deserved recognition as a producer who delivers exceptional and captivating wines.

With both fresh ripe red fruits, some liquorice flavour from the Tinta Barroca, and broody dark fruits from the Touriga & Roriz it’s drinking beautifully now and will develop well for several years to come.
