Ken Forrester Petit Pinotage

This cheerful unwooded Petit Pinotage reflects an easy drinking fruit driven style of South Africa's signature bold red varietal. It was cultivated in 1925 as a cross between Pinot Noir & Cinsaut (Cinsaut was known as "Hermitage" in South Africa at that time, hence the name). Juicy with a soft palate, but still shows off the classic Pinotage aroma of spicey mulberries.

In 1993 Ken Forrester bought the Zandberg farm that was in a rundown state, but it had history in wine dating back to 1689 with the early Cape Dutch settlers. Situated in the gorgeous Helderberg region of Stellenbosch facing False Bay, which provides a cooling maritime affect in a region that can be extremely hot in summer.

Before moving to the Western Cape, Ken was very successful restauranteur in Johannesburg. He is very much quality focused and has been a driving force in the renaissance of South African wine post apartheid.

Rich, polished, with dark plum pudding and a hint of back bacon flavours. This is a perfect red wine to share with friends at a BBQ or as our South African friends call it a “braai”.
