Giusti Lacrima di Morro d’Alba DOC

Here is yet another one of Italy's many hidden treasures. This is 100% Lacrima from the town of Morro d'Alba, a widely unrecognized and underappreciated, but very rewarding variety. An incredibly rich, deep colour, dark fruited, but fresh on the palate, and with just a touch of grippy tannin and spice, this is a delightfully inviting glass to have in hand pretty much any time.

Lacrima is a fabulously aromatic and expressive grape variety, and we’re very lucky to still have it around! Before the 1980s, this little grape was pretty close to extinction (sadly, this is so often the story for indigenous varieties around the world that have been overshadowed by those “in vougue” and international varieties that are easy to recognize–you know the ones). Thankfully, with the development of Italy’s official wine designation system, Lacrima was given new life and recognition for the wonderfully appealing variety that it is. Best to have a bottle of this close by all through the summer, as it’s an excellent red to go with anything off the barbeque or in the picnic basket.
