Gianni Doglia “La Giostrina” Moscato d’Asti DOCG

Ever heard of French toast and Moscato d'Asti? Trust us, it's definitely a thing. Pop this bottle of fizzy delight for a Sunday breakfast match with French toast and friends or as a light, lifted after-dinner dessert option along with oh, say, Crêpes Suzette--or just by itself. It doesn't hurt that this particular semi-sparkling stunner comes from Gianni Doglia, who was named winemaker of the year in 2022 by Italy's most well-respected food and wine magazine, Gambero Rosso.

Gianni Doglia and his sister Paola have created something really special in their small corner of the world. Nestled within Piedmonte’s Langhe and Monferrato area–a UNESCO World Heritage Site–Gianni and Paola have been carefully and respectfully farming the high elevation (300m above sea level) vineyards passed on to them by their parents. The two grapes most prized in the little area of Asti and by generations of winemakers are the red Barbera and the white Moscato. This one’s at the top of the charts.

With a history dating back to the Greeks and Romans, the Moscato grape is one that is treasured by winemakers like Gianni. and you can tell in the delicate freshness, the balance of acidity and the downright aromatic prettiness of this wine. Plus, at only 5.5% abv, it’s a perfect explosion of fresh flavour and a touch of sweetness without putting you over the top on a school night.
