Domaine Dupraz “Le Moulin” Apremont
Apremont (part of the Vin de Savoie appellation) is famous for being specifically a white wine cru. The small production of wine here is focused around the tiny village of Apremont, which is nestled in France’s eastern Alps. The wines of the region, especially the ones made from the Jacquère grape, are often light and dry with floral, mineral characters, but the wines of the Dupraz family are a big step up. The “Le Moulin” bottling (“The Windmill”) is made from 30 year old vines planted on limestone. The wine sees no oak influence at all, but the winemakers help bring out incredible texture and generosity in this wine by ageing it on the lees for 5 months before filtering. There is so much refreshment, satisfaction and delicate white floral appeal in this wine. Absolutely the perfect drop to try with a beautiful cheese board–maybe even just some gooey Époisses or melted raclette cheese, pickles and fresh crusty bread. Mmmm.
*Just a wee note: this wine has natural sediments. Place the bottle upright for 10-15 minutes to let the sediment settle. Place the corkscrew directly into the wax top as usual and uncork upright. Pour slowly, and away you go.*
