DeMorgenzon DMZ Chenin Blanc

DeMorgenzon means ‘the morning sun,’ so named as it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. This rich, dry style of Chenin Blanc really reflects that stunning South African sunshine.

Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum bought DeMorgenzon and have since transformed DeMorgenzon into a 91ha sustainble garden vineyard, where abundant wildflowers grow between the vines. The vineyards have heritage that goes all the way back to The Dutch Governor, Simon van der Stel, founded who Stellenbosch in 1679. DeMorgenzon was originally a section of Uiterwyk, one of the oldest farms in South Africa.

Southerly and South-Easterly aspect vines overlooking False Bay are managed for optimal exposure to gentle morning sunshine. Granitic soils result in grapes with excellent natural acidity and flavour concentration, a trait further enhanced by intentionally low yields. The rich lees character is noticable alongside tropical fruit flavours from one of finest producers of Chenin Blanc in the Western Cape.
