Delinquente Wine Co, Screaming Betty Vermentino

No-one is ever going to miss this label on a shelf! Bold and bright, with distinct passionfruit and stone fruit notes up front with lemon, thyme, and a briny salinity on the finish. A unique interpretation of Vermentino from Australia.

Delinquente is “delinquent” in Italian, which speaks to the winemakers desire to buck the trend, break rules, and do things their own way. Delinquente makes organically grown, minimal interventon wines that are not only great fun to drink, but represent the sun, the red dirt and uniquely Australian terroir of the Riverland. The Riverland is very hot and dry and for this reason they work with southern Italian grape varieties.

This wine is BOLD showing tropical passionfruit notes up front with subdued citrus and lemon thyme lingering in the background. Classic Vermentino on the finish – briney, seaspray savouriness again turned up a little – lots of flavour, lovely acidity, old world in feel – a unique interpretation of Vermentino in this country. Wild fermented in stainless steel, the wine spent 4 weeks on fine lees, stirred twice weekly, giving it a beautiful, textural edge not often found in Australian Vermentino’s while still maintinaing a high acidity making it fresh and drinkable.
