De La Terre Barrique Ferment Chardonnay
De La Terre translates to mean ‘of the earth.’ This is a reference to both the soils of the vineyard but also to the mud-brick winery that owners Tony and Kaye Prichard built. Virtually all of the manual work building this winery was done by the Prichards so these folk are no strangers to hard work. They now produce small quantities of high-quality wines from a mix of quirky varieties that are all worth searching out or visiting the cellar door for on the Napier-Taihape road. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards grown in the hills behind Havelock North. It is a classic Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay fermented in barriques with great texture, balance and elegance.
