Conceito Contraste Vinho Branco

This aged white wine from Portugal is pretty different and interesting! . It is a blend of native Portuguese varieties with unusual names such as Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Códega, and Viosinho, with 30% of the juice aged in new French oak, the rest in tank. With this treatment we felt that the wine reminded us of an aged Chardonnay which we love. Winemaker Rita Ferriera, who did vintage with Villa Maria in NZ, uses grapes from her family’s 3 organic estates all within the Douro Superior area and in particular the Teja Valley which is Douro’s coolest microclimate. Conceito translates to “concept” as Rita also makes wines under this label from other parts of the world including Sauvignon Blanc from NZ. 

On the nose, this wine is fresh and fragrant, featuring citrus notes (lemon, grapefruit), tropical nuances (pineapple, banana), and blossom, with a distinctive herbaceous touch. The pallet is well-balanced with a vigorous, high acidity, vibrant mineral nuances (flint), and a firm yet light texture. The finish is long, clean, and refreshing with a solid grip.
