Domnino de Eguren, Codice Tempranillo

This is 100% Tempranillo (“temp-rah-knee-oh”) and this variety is to Spain what Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is to NZ. Using fruit from vines quite possibly older than you (up to 70 years old) and from the hot central plains of Castile-La Mancha, aged just 6 months in oak. This is a benchmark example of why we love this Spanish style.

The Egurens have been producing wine for five generations and by far this is their most successful wine. They’re in good hands with current head winemaker Marcos Eguren described by Wine Spectator as “one of Spain’s most heralded winemakers.”

If you are wondering: Codice (pronounced “koh-dee-seh”) is the old Spanish word for laws, traditions and codes (códice).

Medium to full bodied, red fruits like raspberries, blackberries of good intensity with aromas coffee, toasted notes and vanilla.
