Coal Pit “Tiwha” Pinot Noir

A great example of Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir. It has everything you would expect in a wine from this region. Those dried herb characters are mixed with ripe red fruits.

The Coal Pit winery and vineyard are situated on Coal Pit Road in the hills above the main road going through the Gibbston Valley. This is a rugged country. Hot in the summer with snow in the winter months. The 7 hectares of vineyards dating back to 1994 making them some of the oldest in the region. It’s amazing to think how the reputation for quality wine from this region has been achieved since the early 1990s. Owned by Rosie Dunphy this is a family affair with her son Hugo also working in the business. The wine is what we would consider typical Gibbston Valley. Fresh yet concentrated with ripe fruits and charry oak flavours.
