Chateau Montlandrie Bordeaux

I often find it is incredibly hard to find great quality Bordeaux that do not cost the earth to buy. This wine, while still pretty expensive, is great value for the region. It has heaps of flavour, a grippy structure while still being approachable.

A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cotes de Castillon borders the more famous St Emillion appellation and the soils and vineyards are very similar. Chateau Montlandrie is one 15-hectare block planted with the 3 varieties in 15 different blocks. Each block is then vinified separately before blending. The property was purchased by Denis Durantou who also owns Chateau L’Eglise Clinet in Pomerol but the property goes all the way back to the 1800’s when it was founded by an Italian family. This wine does need to be drunk with food. It has a wallop of fruit supported by some hefty tannins so don’t treat it lightly!!
