Chateau de Montmal Fitou
Never heard of Fitou? Not surprised really. But it is a little village in the south-west of France, below Montpellier and Toulose and just above the Spanish border. The wines are not too dissimilar from the wines of the southern Rhone Valley although the signature grape of Fitou is Carignan. This is blended with Grenache and together they must make up at least 60% of the blend. Syrah and Mouvedre are the other varieties used in the blend. This wine is a real mouthful. Its full bodied and delicious and the perfect wine to consume around the open fire while grilling some red meats.
