Casa Santos Lima Alvarinho

Call it Albariño or Alvarinho, no matter where you are along the eastern Iberian coast, the Atlantic ocean's influence results in strikingly bright, zippy expressions of this grape, and the wines classically show just a touch of sea-breezy salinity. This Alvarinho from the Lisboa region is an absolute stunner, and so classic, with all the freshness and minerality you'd expect, along with fantastic ripe Meyer lemon and suggestions of lusher exotic fruit just underneath. Bring out the sardines and oysters!

If you’ve ever been to Portugal, you know that local food is woven into the very culture of life there. The saying “what grows together goes together” was never better applied than to the wines of Portugal’s east coast–though in this case the term “grows” of course includes the amazing bounty that comes daily from the Altantic Ocean. Alvarinho is the most classic white wine to pair with anything that comes from the sea. Briny, fresh and sometimes deliately sweet, foods like oysters, clams, mussells, prawns, sardines, and octopus are all classic foods to pair with Alvarinho. The salty breezes that blow through the vineyards of Portugal’s eastern coast manifest in the mineral freshness and structure of the wines that come from this area, while the warm sunny days contribute ripe, aromatic characteristics, creating the perfect sort of harmony. This wines is so satisfying, and so delicious you may wish you had another bottle when the first one is gone.
