Burn Cottage – Riesling/Gruner Veltliner

Only the seventh release of this co-fermented blend you wont often find in New Zealand. From this small Cromwell Valley producer renowned for either Pinot Noir. The palate is richly textural with a wonderful chalky mineral element, enhanced by some skin contact.

Burn Cottage is a twenty four hectare estate in the foothills of the stunning Pisa range in Central Otago, New Zealand. The vineyard is owned by the Sauvage family which also owns the celebrated Koehler Ruprecht estate in the Pfalz region of Germany, as well as several fine wine importing and wholesaling companies in the United States.

The Riesling (64%) and Gruner Veltliner (36%) grow in a slightly cooler microclimate in a side valley near the top Burn Cottages vineyards, allowing these varieties more time for lovely flavour development and concentration. A real soft touch in the winery: lightly foot crushed and bathed in juice for 48-72 hours before pressing. The varieties were then pressed together and co-fermented in stainless steel barrels and neutral oak barriques for 11 months. This very small production wine blend is dry, perfumed with floral notes of lime and ginger along with the herbal touch of pepper, fennel and lemongrass. Very unique with low alcohol make this a great lunchtime offering and great with superb with mild spice in a dish.
