Bodegas Manzanos Campanas “1864 Castillo de Olite” Chardonnay

Peppered with ancient castles and stories of knights and kings, Navarra is an area that cherishes its noble roots (that’s a real 13th century castle on the label). Navarra is also an area well-known for Chardonnay, which is uncommon in Spain. The mountainous northern vineyards (Navarra borders France and Basque country) provide acidity and freshness to the region’s Chardonnays, which makes them deliciously drinkable, food friendly and also age worthy. This one also happens to come from the oldest winery in Navarra, established in 1864

For those who love a bit of indulgence with their Chardonnays, this is a nice option that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
Rich, ripe fruit notes, deep, round flavours, and more than a hint of nutty, pastry tart-toasty goodness. That’s what you’ll find in this intriguing little bottle. Bright notes and an element of silkiness, along with the fact that for all those rich notes, this isn’ a fat, boozy style of Chardonnay, mean that you can enjoy more than just a glass and still feel refreshed. And if you’re looking to pair this bottle with a week-night dinner, don’t be afriad to go rich and subtantial. There’s enough weight and texture to work with something like Gnocchi or risotto but enough of that lovely acidity to cut through rich elements like cream sauces at the same time. Or, you know…Saturday night movie and popcorn works, too.
