Adega de Penalva Melenio 1000

If you have visited us in Cellar 495 recently you will have noted that we currently have a thing for the soft, cuddly red wines of Portugal. They are just so very warming, lush and welcoming. This wine is no exception. Made with Touriga Nacional and Aragonês grape varieties grown in the Dao region, one of the oldest established wine regions of Portugal.

The region which is not far from the Spanish border to the north, is a mountainous area with a climate that is influenced more by the surrounding mountains that the Atlantic ocean. The warm conditions during the growing season ensure ripe and full bodied wines are possible.

The blend is Aragonês Or Tinta Roriz. Otherwise Tempranillo to the Spanish, the Portuguese call it by two different names depending on the region. Touriga Nacional is the often referred to as the national red wine grape of Portugal, here in the Dao we find a more distinctive herbal/black olive flavour.

This is a great everyday drinking wine and could even be enjoyed over a couple of nights. It has to last of course. It probably wont though. drink with a hearty stew.
