Newton Johnson Pinot Noir

This is a wine for those Pinot Noir lovers who are looking to try something new. They will not be disappointed as the wines from this producer are fantastic. The world of fine wine is a large one and no one should limit themselves to only drinking Pinot from Burgundy and New Zealand.

The world of quality Pinot Noir is an interesting one. Not everywhere has the ability to grow and make this fickle wine style and maybe this limits its mainstream appeal. There is a certain part of South Africa that has been making Pinot Noir very well for a number of years. This is the area around the seaside town of Hermanus, a 1.5-hour drive from Cape Town. The Newton-Johnson family are leading the charge, growing grapes in the Hemel en Aarde Valley and producing outstanding wines. Maybe a little more pale than what we are used to in New Zealand but that does not mean that it lacks concentration or depth. A more savoury, meaty and earthy style of Pinot Noir.
