Heraclio Alfaro Crianza

A harmonious, fruity and fresh Crianza Rioja red wine made from Garnacha, Graciano and Tempranillo grapes. The Heraclio Alfaro Crianza Tinto is a special cuvée from Rioja that stands out due to the high proportion of Garnacha grapes. This gives the wine its intense fruitiness and freshness, while the Tempranillo grape provides structure and balance. A great wine to drink next to the fire!

Heraclio Alfaro was a pioneer of Spanish aviation and in the 1910’s he became one of Spain’s first pilots. The winery in Rioja now sits on the site of an old aviation hanger in Alfaro that he used and therefore pays homage to him and his endeavors. This Crianza is a blend of 85% Tempranillo with Garnacha and Graciano so it is a pretty typical Rioja blend. Crianza wines from Rioja are the most accessible level of wines. The rules of the region state that Crianza level does need to be aged at least 2 years before release with at least one year in barrel. This is normally in old barrels so the wine is more fruity and less “woody”. Fruit is sourced from 2 vineyards located in the Rioja Oriental (East), a warmer and drier part of Rioja. The Garnacha component coming from very old, elevated vineyards located at 700m.

Deep black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Unfurling from the glass are ripe black cherry and liquorice aromas which are complimented by toasty oak, earthy leather and spice notes. Rich black cherry, liquorice and black raspberry fruits overlay a toasty oak, earth and spicy leather back drop. Plush and sensuous it has ripe chewy tannins and a long polished yet touch rustic finish.
