Extrait de Terre, Gamay
Extrait de Terre is a wine brand that typically focuses on expressing the terroir (soil, climate, and environment) of a specific vineyard or region. The name “Extrait de Terre” translates to “Extract of the Earth,” which signifies the wine’s focus on showcasing the purity and essence of the land where the grapes are grown. The wine has been crafted with an emphasis on natural winemaking, terroir expression, and a minimal intervention approach in the cellar.
Côtes du Tarn is a wine appellation located in the Southwest of France, and is part of the Gaillac wine-growing area. Wine production stretches back 2000 years and the area was one of the two Grands Crus of Roman Gaul and the Abbaye St Michel in Gaillac was famed for its wine in the Middle-Ages. Twists of history and the phylloxera epidemic mean Gaillac’s vineyards now occupy just one-twentieth of their former size, and the region is far less well-known in the modern era and the wines are accordingly extremely well-priced.
Richly fruited and instantly appealing, the wine shows Black Doris plum and some mixed spice.
